General Club Questions
No, we are a members-only club and cannot accomodate non-members or walk ins, outside of our charity shoots, sanctioned tournaments and matches, or by being brought by a full member as their guest.
Once you are approved as a full member by the board of directors, you may use the ranges during their operating hours, so long as an RCO is present and has opened that range, or if you are RCO certified and have someone else with you, or have obtained your solo status.
***It is important to note that the hours below are the hours that the ranges may be opened and used. Certain days and times throughout the week, specific ranges are booked for various disciplines, range rentals, training courses etc.*** The board always strives for a balance that ensures that members will always have some ranges open for general recreational shooting, while rentals occur on other ranges.
Our Indoor Range may be opened and used 24/7.

No, the club does not store or provide any firearms for our members to use. Members are required to possess and bring their own firearms for their use at the range.
Our 10 lane indoor range is 25 Metres long. Our 8 outdoor ranges vary in length from 10 Metres to 150 Metres and most every distance in between!
Members are not permitted to bring or use their own steel targets at the range. We do provide small steel challenge gongs on our 150 Metre range 8, for members to use. Members who participate in organized disciplines that use steel targets, such as action shotgun, PRS-R etc. will have an opportunity to use steel targets during scheduled practices and matches.
Check out our huge selection of disciplines we offer under the ‘disciplines’ section of the website.
Guest Policy Questions
Yes! Once you have been approved as a full member by the board of directors, you may bring guests to the club.
Yes. You may bring the same PAL holding guest a maximum of 6 times per calendar year and the same non-PAL holding guest a maximum of 12 times per year. If your guest is under 18 years of age, there is no limit to the amount of times they may attend as a guest.
If your guest is 18 years of age, or older, there is a $20 guest fee, per guest, per visit. If your guest is under 18 there is no guest fee! Regardless of age, a guest waiver must be completed for all guests.
Yes, you may bring more than one guest at a time, however you may only supervise one guest at a time. If you have more than one guest, those who are not shooting under direct supervision, are to be behind the ceasefire line.
ALL guests, regardless of PAL status, and experience level, must always be directly supervised by a full member of the club. This means that the full member, supervising the guest, is NOT shooting at the same time as the guest they are supervising.
New Member Questions
All of our new members complete the same new member process, summarized below.
The first step is to submit an application online. – This can be found under ‘Membership Process & Application‘ and scroll down to the bottom.
After your application is reviewed and approved by our membership committee, it is added to the waiting list. The membership committee will reach out if they have any questions. As of the beginning of 2026 we have an approx. 6-10 month waiting list.
When your application gets to the top of the waiting list we will reach out and offer you a seat in an upcoming full-day new member safety and orientation course.
Once you have successfully completed the new member safety and orientation course you become a probationary member. The probationary period lasts for a minimum of 90 days. While probationary, you are not able to use the range without direct and immediate supervision from an existing full member. The main goal during the probationary period is to complete your ‘sign offs’ which are one on one shoots with our designated safety instructors. There are four types of sign offs – Handgun, Rifle, Fixed-Target Shotgun and Clay Shotgun. In order to be eligible for full membership you must complete at least one full set of sign offs, and the 90 days must have passed. Once both of these elements have been met, your file is reviewed at the following board meeting, where if there have been no safety concerns, or other, you would be approved as a full member.
As a full member you are eligible and encourage to take the RCO course, a free 2.5 hour course that teaches you how to open / close and safely operate and monitor the range for safe shooting.
As a full member with this RCO designation, you are able to open and use our ranges, 7 days a week, during our operating hours.
For the first year after being approved by the board of directors as a full member, no member may shoot alone. This means you must have either a guest, another member, or another individual with you, within direct line of sight, while shooting.
After one year of full membership, without any safety or policy concerns, members may apply for solo approval which removes the requirement to have someone else present while they shoot.
While this is a ‘process’ we take safety very seriously and as a member owned and operate not-for-profit we work to ensure that each new member has the training and tools that they need to succeed as a member of the Barrie Gun Club.
Once you have completed your new member safety and orientation course, and are a probationary member, you are required to complete at least one full set of sign offs, but will be required to complete all sign off sets, for the types of firearms that you wish to use.
There are two main ways to obtain a sign off for Rifle / Pistol and Fixed Target Shotgun:
1. Club nights – Monday and Tuesday nights from 5:30pm-8:00pm we have instructors on site, and able to offer you a sign off. Certain sign offs need to be completed on outdoor ranges, so sunset can affect availability of some types of sign offs in the Winter months, on club nights.
2. Our members forum – Once you have successfully completed the new member safety and orientation course, you can gain access to our members only forum. This forum provides a place where our instructors post extra dates and times that they are able to offer sign offs to new members, but it is also a place where our new members can reach out to see if any instructors available to help them, on specific days and times.
In order to obtain a clay sign off, you simply attend the clay fields – anytime during their operating hours – and the clay field opener will be able to offer you a sign off – which is generally a full round of trap, skeet or 5 stand.
No, while you are a probationary member you may only ever shoot under the direct and immediate supervision of a full member. The supervising member may not shoot at the same time that you are shooting.
No, as a probationary member you are not able to bring a guest to the range.
Yes, for the purposes of sign offs, with one of our safety instructor, or under the direct and immediate supervision of a full member.
Generally, yes, with some exceptions. We do have some instructors that bring and share their firearms with probationary members, solely for the purposes of helping them complete their sign offs. Not all instructors bring their own firearms for this purpose, so those using instructors firearms, can expect a longer wait when attending sign offs, or may not be possible at all on certain days or times. It is strongly recommended that our new members possess or purchase at least one firearm for the purposes of getting started with their sign offs.
