Membership Process
We are now accepting applications for new members!
Please note that we do have a waitlist. Presently the wait is between 8-12 months from the time of application.
All of our new members complete the same new member process, summarized below.
The first step is to submit an application online.
Please note that to be a Full or Senior member a valid Firearms License is required. We do not have or rent out ‘club guns’. Members need to possess their own firearms for use at the club.
After your application is reviewed and approved by our membership committee, it is added to the waiting list. The membership committee will reach out if they have any questions. As of the beginning of 2026 we have an approx. 8-12 month waiting list.
When your application gets to the top of the waiting list we will reach out and offer you a seat in an upcoming full-day new member safety and orientation course.
Once you have successfully completed the new member safety and orientation course you become a probationary member. The probationary period lasts for a minimum of 90 days. While probationary, you are not able to use the range without direct and immediate supervision from an existing full member. The main goal during the probationary period is to complete your ‘sign offs’ which are one on one shoots with our designated safety instructors. There are four types of sign offs – Handgun, Rifle, Fixed-Target Shotgun and Clay Shotgun. In order to be eligible for full membership you must complete at least one full set of sign offs, and the 90 days must have passed. Once both of these elements have been met, your file is reviewed at the following board meeting, where if there have been no safety concerns, or other, you would be approved as a full member.
As a full member you are eligible and encourage to take the RCO course, a free 2.5 hour course that teaches you how to open / close and safely operate and monitor the range for safe shooting.
As a full member with this RCO designation, you are able to open and use our ranges, 7 days a week, during our operating hours.
For the first year after being approved by the board of directors as a full member, no member may shoot alone. This means you must have either a guest, another member, or another individual with you, within direct line of sight, while shooting.
After one year of full membership, without any safety or policy concerns, members may apply for solo approval which removes the requirement to have someone else present while they shoot.
While this is a ‘process’ we take safety very seriously and as a member owned and operate not-for-profit we work to ensure that each new member has the training and tools that they need to succeed as a member of the Barrie Gun Club.
Be sure to check out our ‘Disciplines‘ page to see the many organized practices and matches we offer our members, also be sure to see our ‘Club Policies and FAQ‘ page to familiarize yourself with how the club operates. If you think the Barrie Gun Club sounds like the right fit for you, please submit an application via the link below. Our prices are listed on Membership Options & Rates page. Please be sure to read through the requirements of each, so you can select the right membership level for you on your application.
We look forward to meeting you!
